For users of the TourCMS tour operator ecommerce platform

I have put in an option to add extra hotel nights to tours.

You can see this in the booking system here.  Just select the April departure to test.

I have 2 questions:

  1. How to I make a drop down box that enables users to choose a number of nights >1.
  2. Is there a better way to calculate pricing...at the moment it is $240 per 4 pax on a booking, and the way i have entered that is as per person prices $240/1pax, $120each/2pax, $80each/3pax etc.  This is quite slow to put in the 'dates and prices' section for this option.  Is there a better way?  I have an idea I can charge X1 instead of X quantity, but i'm a bit confused about how it works; it also doesn't help me if there are eg 5pax on a booking and i need to charge for the second room.
  3. Can I just have it so that the number of pax for an accomadation addon defaults to the number of pax on the booking, and that the only drop down box is to determine the number of extra nights?

Many kind thanks,

Ben Neynens

Anyone have an idea about this?

Hi Ben,

  1. Isn't currently something the standard booking engine supports I'm afraid. What you can currently do is load say a 1 night Option, a 2 night Option and a 3 night Option for example - then let the customer pick which they want.

You could make it easier for the customer to pick by loading a "No extra extension" Option with a zero price, switching on radio buttons for that group of Options and then defaulting them to "Included, no removal". That way the customer just uses the radio button to decided whether they want "No extra extension", "1 extra night", "2 extra nights" etc.

Let me know if you'd like a hand setting something up like that as an example.

  2. I think the way you are doing it is currently the best way.

  3. The first part is indeed possible, however the second part isn't currently - you would currently require separate Options.

I was just reading this support page where it says...

"If we wanted to offer this on a per room basis rather than a per person basis we'd just load the room rate here (and change the "Per" description in "Content")."

Unfortunately 'per' and 'content' are not defined here and I haven't a clue what they are referring to.

However, overall the statement appears to imply that if I am loading an option and I want it to be priced per group rather than per pax, that this would be possible.

Especially considering tourcms is intended to be built for custom itineraries, this functionality of adding on extra hotel nights seems awfully complex.

Your thoughts much appreciated,

Ben

Hi Ben,

The Per setting is in Descriptions for the Option - Descriptions was previously called Content.

I have updated the tutorial to fix that plus one other renamed field, apologies for the confusion.

I guess this is kind of related to the hotel booking question.

I want to have a yes/no option that either will or won't result in a $1000 discount being applied to a tour, per group and not per person.

It is bit odd to have eg a six person group, and for the user to have to select the number between 1-6 in order to determine whether or not they want the discount applied for the group, even though it is not applicable to the individual.

Is there a way to do per-group discounts using options?  Or if not, plans to implement this functionality in the system?

Hi Ben,

I'm sure something is possible, is this about correct:

- If there are 6 people or more on a booking a discount applies.

- If there are less than 6 people no discount applies.

?

Paul

Not quite, but that could be useful also.

In this case, its for when a small group (of eg 4-10 people) choose a freesale tour date, they can either:

  1. Take the tour alone.
  2. Agree to allow other people to join the tour (essentially allowing us to create an additional fixed departure, so in our case we can sell up to 14pax on the same trip), and get a group discount for allowing this.

I'm sure though that there will be much simpler reasons for needing the same functionality.

Basically, the function in Tour Setup > Money > "Total price will be x 1 not x quantity" serves the same purpose, but it still results in a drop down box with the number of people on the tour, as opposed to a yes/no drop down or a radio selector.

Hi Ben,

Ok, thanks for clarifying. What you could do is:

- Create two Options (e.g. one for "Take the discount", another for "Don't take the discount")

- Both are set to Included, no removal (in the Booking Engine tab)

- "Take the discount" gets loaded with your negative price (Price x 1 as you say)

- "Don't take the discount" gets loaded with zero prices

Then head to "Configuration & Setup" > "Option types & radio buttons" and tick the "Radio" button for the "Option Type" you have set them both up as. Combined with the "Included, no removal" setting above this means the customer will effectively just be choosing one or the other, rather than entering quantities.

You can make sure each option only shows when the correct party sizes are being booked by heading into Dates and prices for each Option, then editing the Pricing table and setting rows 1, 2 and 3 to "No" (instead of "Capacity" as they will be by default).

Hopefully that should cover it, feel free to fire an email to support if you'd like a hand setting something up.

And don't forget you can configure a Short description to show in the booking engine for each Option if you need a little more explanatory text than just the name alone allows.
