Hi Alex,
The concept of using webinars for training is spot on as it gives good familiarisation and insight. I'm afraid the technology beat me. Twas the first webinar I've "been to" and whilst I thought I'd got my hardware at this end working I ran into problems when my mic wasn't actually working and the sound quality through headphones was poor. You sounded like you were in an room without sound insulation .. not quite echoing but reverberating.
I subseqeunbtly tried without headphones and resorted to speakers but it was the same; so I assumed it was the quality your end (?) and quit. Don't know what other listeners experienced ?
I had followed the set up process and checked my hardware but would have found a "are you receiving me/acknowledgement" session useful prior to the webinar starting.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the feedback. I know others felt the sound was good - so I am afraid that it is likely to be something at your end? (however having written this no doubt others will chime in if this isn't the case - which is why we have forums - so happy for people to say that!)
Could it actually not have been your sound at all - but the speed of your internet connection? If it couldn't keep up with video / audio then it may have chopped the audio in order to keep it flowing?
Using a professional voice microphone with pop shield - not a headset like use for skype calls - so we invested some effort in making the sound set up ok.
The entire webinar was meant to be a bit of a tech test. Next time I promise to up our game.
Alex...mmm I've still got doubts lack of knowledge about the technology or rather I'm just expecting everything to work like plug and play or clockwork.
With my knowledge level I expect my internet to produce as good sound quality for a webinar as for an embedded video or a video off YouTube ...is this not the case ? Does a webinar need a better speed ?
What speed is recommended ?
Hi Paul
It was a bit of a test for us as well.
I am confident the sound was OK because at least one person (who runs their own podcasts) said the sound quality was good (because I was checking our audio setup).
Hence I am pretty sure it is something at your end - however I didn't want to write that - as it sounds a little "not our problem guv" - which is not something very helpful I realise.
I am not sure I know the answer to the question about what speed is required. A normal residential connection should be fine I am sure.
Were you running any other bandwidth hogging applications at the same time? e.g. Internet radio?
Kath had the same problem when she first signed in.
She had called the number initially using Skype, once the software finished installing she was then getting a second audio, resulting in exactly the same issue as you had.
We solved the problem by shutting everything down, ending the Skype call and restarting just the webinar.
Hi Neil and thanks for letting me know.
I've not used Skype but at least you've thrown more weight to what Alex eluded to,i.e. that it could be something at my end. But it'll be interesting to see what other people found.
cheers
Paul
Kath and I both found the Webinar useful and we have been using TourCMS for years.
I think that it is great that you are making them a regular event.
Couple of points of feedback
- Would have preferred if it had been pitched at either experienced users or inexperienced users/evaluators. By trying to cover the whole spectrum I feel you lost people at both ends of the scale.
- Would suggest that a much smaller subject area is covered in much greater depth rather skimming over complicated subjects.
- Would have like to discuss/ask questions verbally rather than cover questions once you had moved on to a new area.
- Record the webinar so can refer back to later.
Otherwise great idea and essential for training existing team and new starts. Keep them coming.
Yes - questions will be audio next time - now I have worked out how to do it :)
We have the facility to record them - but are not sure about putting them on this site - we have another strategy for that - coming soon :)
(don't you just love it when I say coming soon!)
Pitching was tricky - now we have a demo one (in the list of webinars) we will ensure that people new to TourCMS go to that as their first TourCMS experience
