For users of the TourCMS tour operator ecommerce platform

Hi,

Any ideas on how to set the defaults on how RTF's open on your computer?

On my computer (PC with Vista/Word 07), when I open an RTF it opens a new tab (TourCMS admin) and then the document opens directly in word. (This is the ideal situation for us)

On Kath's Computer (PC with Vista/Word 07) it opens a new IE window and then the document opens directly in word. (Not perfect but OK).

On Anna's Computer (PC with XP/word 03) the RTF opens with new IE window which is a real pain as you don't have the full word functionality and the saving functions etc keep popping up error messages.

Any ideas on how to change the settings in IS/word so the RTF's open in word woudl be much appreciated as i have tried every option going but can't seem to make it happen.

Thanks
Neil

Hi Neil,

Thanks for asking your question here. Umm..... not sure about the answer though!

However, does this article help?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/178222

TourCMS creates the RTF in a new browser window (which depending upon the browser settings will either be in a new browser, or a new tab (the difference between your and Kath's experience)) - and perhaps the settings as outlined on the Microsoft website control the other behaviour (explaining Anna's experience)

I have to admit that when we demo TourCMS I do tend to cross my fingers when it gets to document generation - because everyone has a slightly different configuration!

If you have time, I would like to call you so I can actually get a full understanding as to what the differences are (and then I can write it up in the documentation)

Best wishes. Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the link but it's not much help as refers to an older version of IE and therefore I don't have thise menu options.

Give me a call anytime, I'm in all day.

Hi Neil,
As discussed yesterday - between us we worked out what was going on.

If you go into the file navigator (on a Windows PC), not Internet Explorer, go into Tools, Folder options, file types.... then find .DOC - and in the advanced popup change whether the file should open in a new window or not.

I will make sure this explanation makes it way into the documentation manual.

Thanks. Alex
