Hi Barry
Are these always a value - or are they sometimes a % ?

Do you need to restrict them (apart from by date)?

We could build this into TourCMS quite easily (at no cost to you) - but no one else asked about this before.... hence we don't have automated coupon functionality integrated at the moment (although some customers do ask for discount codes in the freetext box - which is a manual way of doing this right now)

I would definitely be interested in auto coupons. It would make it easier to discount, especially when I do buy one get one for my tours.

Right - thanks Mike - that sounds like a development request!

Buy one get one.... do you need TourCMS to handle that - or would a financial coupon work fine? [Perhaps a 50% discount]

I guess we also need to check whether the coupon is applied to a specific component in a booking - or to the entire booking (i.e. it could be 50% off a certain tour - but on a complex booking with multiple tours in - the rest of the booking isn't discounted]

This is where a financial token (non %) may work best. Any further ideas / problems that we need to handle?

We do not need a percentage (But thanks).

As far as restictions, a coupon could be good for a particular tour date (when we get close to the tour date, this is a good way to fill that tour), or for all tour dates (on all tours). Some are single-use ($500 off of your first trip).

Oh, and please let me describe an issue we currently have (with Virtuemart) that we probably should ensure we do not duplicate:

We issue a coupon ($1000 off of all trips you book before July 31).
We require $900 deposit, and the balance due 90 days before the trip.
VurtueMart will allow them to use the coupon on the deposit.
The coupon is good for the LAST $1000, not for the deposit. Otherwise, we have no deposit, and when the person does not pay the balance, we held the room for nothing.
In addition, since VirtueMart has no restrictions on where you can use the coupon, the user could use the same coupon AGAIN when paying the balance (in VirtueMart, they are different products)

Hate to bore you with all of this "In our other system...." stuff, but if it can help TourCMS be better than the competitors, then it is a worthwhile exercise.
